What are your system requirements?

This article covers the main FAQs regarding the hardware and networking components EduTrak supports.

EduTrak software is primarily browser-based and does not require schools to install or maintain dedicated application software or on-site server equipment for standard use.

This article outlines the recommended devices, browsers, network configuration, and support tools for successfully using EduTrak products.

Supported Web Browsers

EduTrak primarily supports and tests its software using the latest versions of:

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox

We recommend keeping your browser updated to the most recent available version.

Other browsers may function with EduTrak products, but they are not part of our primary testing environment and may have limited support.

For the best experience, we also recommend using a standard browser window rather than Incognito or Private Browsing modes.

Software Installation

Most EduTrak products are accessed entirely through a web browser. This includes products such as:

  • Food Service
  • eStore
  • Administrative tools
  • User Services

No local EduTrak application installation is required for normal use.

Some hardware integrations may require additional software. For example, customers using supported PAX payment devices may need to install a companion application on the computer communicating with the device.

Computer and Operating System Recommendations

For administrative users, EduTrak recommends using a full Windows or macOS computer whenever possible.

These environments provide the greatest compatibility with administrative functions, file management, imports and exports, and troubleshooting tools.

Chromebooks

Chromebooks can be used with EduTrak because the software is browser-based. However, ChromeOS may limit certain administrative or troubleshooting functions.

For example, some Chromebook environments may not allow users to map network drives or access network locations required for certain import and export workflows.

Because of these limitations, Chromebooks are generally better suited for serving-line use than for administrative work.

Tablets and iPads

Tablets and iPads may also be used for browser-based serving-line functions.

However, support and troubleshooting capabilities may be limited on these devices. For example, remote support tools may not be available or may provide reduced functionality compared with a Windows or macOS computer.

Screen size should also be considered. While the software may function on smaller tablets, serving-line screens can become difficult to navigate on smaller displays. A larger screen is recommended whenever practical.

Touchscreen computers are supported and can work well for serving-line environments.

User Services and Mobile Devices

EduTrak User Services is designed to work through a web browser and does not require parents or guardians to download a mobile application.

User Services can be accessed from:

  • Windows and Mac computers
  • Android phones and tablets
  • iPhones and iPads
  • Other devices with a modern web browser

Chrome and Firefox remain our recommended browsers, although other modern mobile browsers may function properly.

The User Services interface is designed to adapt to smaller screens and can be used directly from a mobile phone's browser.

Network Recommendations

A stable network connection is especially important for cafeteria serving lines and other areas where large numbers of transactions may be processed in a short period of time.

Whenever possible, EduTrak recommends connecting serving-line computers directly to the school's network using a wired Ethernet connection.

Wired connections generally provide greater consistency and reduce the possibility of latency or connectivity problems during high-volume serving periods.

If Wi-Fi must be used, we recommend:

  • Locating wireless access points close to serving-line computers.
  • Ensuring strong and consistent wireless coverage in cafeteria areas.
  • Configuring the network to accommodate high transaction volumes during serving periods.
  • Monitoring for congestion or signal degradation when large numbers of students are present.

Physical obstructions, network congestion, and distance from wireless access points can all affect Wi-Fi performance.

Firewall, Filtering, and Security Software

School network security tools must allow EduTrak services to communicate properly.

Depending on your school's network configuration, your IT department may need to allow specific:

  • Domains or URLs
  • IP addresses
  • Network ports
  • WebSocket or other browser-based connections

Schools using SSL inspection, wildcard certificates, content filtering, or other network security tools may also need to create exceptions for EduTrak services.

Please refer to our Firewall and Network Requirements documentation for the current list of addresses, ports, and recommended exceptions.

Antivirus and Browser Security Tools

Antivirus software, browser security extensions, web filters, or endpoint protection tools can occasionally interfere with browser-based applications.

If one of these tools is modifying, filtering, or blocking EduTrak web content, your IT department may need to create an exception or allowlist EduTrak websites.

Security software should not be disabled globally. Instead, schools should configure appropriate exceptions for EduTrak services when necessary.

Remote Support Requirements

The EduTrak Support Team uses TeamViewer when remote access to a customer's computer is needed for troubleshooting.

Schools do not need to install the full TeamViewer application. TeamViewer QuickSupport can be used to provide temporary remote access.

For computers where remote troubleshooting may be required, especially administrative or serving-line computers, the school should allow TeamViewer QuickSupport to run.

Devices that cannot run TeamViewer may still be supported, but our ability to directly observe and troubleshoot device-specific issues may be limited.

Hosting Requirements

EduTrak hosts its standard web applications, so schools do not normally need to provide or maintain local server hardware for EduTrak software.

Certain legacy, specialized, or approved configurations may use virtual machines or other locally hosted components. These configurations are only available in specific circumstances and must be coordinated with EduTrak.

Recommended Configuration Summary

For the best overall experience, EduTrak recommends:

  • A Windows or macOS computer for administrative users.
  • An updated version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
  • Wired Ethernet connections for high-volume cafeteria serving lines whenever possible.
  • Strong nearby Wi-Fi coverage when wired connections are unavailable.
  • Larger screens for serving-line computers.
  • Appropriate firewall and security exceptions for EduTrak services.
  • TeamViewer QuickSupport availability on computers where remote troubleshooting may be required.

Schools with questions about a specific device, network configuration, or deployment environment should contact EduTrak Support before purchasing or deploying large numbers of devices.
